Community Brokerage
building Scottish brokerage
be part of the change

The Approved Brokers Community of Practice CIC  is a not for profit company set up in 2021 by a group of community brokers based in Scotland.

The community of practice is for independent brokers, professionals and other social care workers throughout Scotland who are interested in community brokerage and self-directed support.

Our community of practice works to provide opportunities for community brokerage conversations, resources, peer support and professional learning.  By connecting and supporting our membership we work to develop, enhance and improve the quality of professional community brokerage practice in Scotland.

Members are required to work to an approved code of practice and to uphold the organisation's principles, standards and values.

Our membership is drawn from community brokerage practitioners and related professionals working throughout Scotland.

Through our community's brokerage practice we aim to contribute to conversations and changes within Scotland's wider social care agenda.

Through the experience and participation of our diverse membership, we work to be part of making positive changes for the people and communities we support.

“COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE are groups of people who share a concern, a set of problems, or a passion about a topic, and who deepen their knowledge and expertise in this area by interacting on an ongoing basis.”Etienne Wenger, Cultivating Communities of Practice: A Guide to Managing Knowledge

What Scottish community brokerage practitioners say about community brokerage:

"To me community brokerage practice is so much more than signposting.  Community brokerage isn't only about linking people to available local organisations.  As community brokers we are so much more than information administrators.
